Welcome! If you are interested in growing your faith, nourishing your family life, and exploring the beauty of God’s design, you are going to like it here.
Our mission is simple. In fact, it can be summed up in three short words:
FEED MY SHEEP.
If you aren’t familiar with the Bible story, Peter denied Jesus Christ three times on the night Jesus was arrested (Jn. 13:36-38).
The same man Jesus declared, “on this rock I will build my church (Matt. 16:18),” fled in fear when his faith was tested.
Oh, how many times have I done the same?
After declaring his affection and devotion to Jesus, Peter was disappointed by his own humanity.
Shame. Remorse. Defeat.
Familiar feelings overwhelmed as Peter beat himself up for his failure.
Likely, he wondered if he could ever, truly be a rock again.
Yet, the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after the resurrection, he had a compelling conversation with Peter (Jn 21:17).
“Simon ‘Peter,’ son of John, do you love Me?”
“Lord, You know everything! You know that I love You.”
“Feed My sheep,” Jesus said.
As Peter loved the Lord, so do we. As Peter struggled to overcome failure and serve the Lord, so do we. As Peter was commissioned to FEED THE SHEEP, so are we!
WHO ARE THE SHEEP?
In John 10:27-28, Jesus answers this question for us when He says, “My sheep hear My voice, I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish—ever! No one will snatch them out of My hand.”
If you have accepted the free gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, you are one of God’s sheep! Here are three simple ways to test and confirm your sheep-ness:
- Do you hear God’s voice?
- Do you know who God is?
- Do you follow Jesus?
If your answer to these questions is a resounding yes, then you no longer need to worry about navigating the field of life on your own. Even when you stray from the pack for a while, the Good Shepherd will find you (Lk5:4-6) and He will rejoice over you. No one will be able to snatch you out of the safety of His hand.
If you aren’t certain whether or not you are God’s sheep, here’s how you can know for sure: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom 10:9).
And it is so important that you know for certain! Because this world is full of wolves, cliffs, droughts, and danger. And the thing about sheep is, well, they aren’t very good of taking care of themselves, are they?
Sheep need a Shepherd, and so do we (Jn 10:14-15).
WHAT IS THE FOOD?
Peter himself defines food for us in 1 Peter 2:2, “Like newborn infants, desire the pure spiritual milk, so that you may grow by it for your salvation.”
In the same way lambs need the nourishment only their mothers can provide, young Christian women need spiritual mothers upon which to rely (Tit 2:3-5).
Sadly, there are many spiritual orphans in God’s flock. Little lambs who want to grow strong in their faith, yet struggle to find a trustworthy source of spiritual milk.
We aim to be a safe place for women to develop spiritual maturity. To faithfully provide the nourishment you need to produce spiritual milk for the little lambs in your life.
A Message from Sarah Koontz
Are you hungry for spiritual nourishment, yet struggle to know where to start? In my experience, what most Christian women crave—and what we focus on here at Living by Design Ministries—is the following:
Nourishing meals with just enough complexity to delight our taste-buds and keep us coming back for more.
God’s Word is packed with spiritual nourishment; we aim to provide resources to help you break it down into bite-sized pieces that are easy to digest. We hope to fill you up so you are equipped to nurture and nourish others.
